Guest blogger-Rhodesy's Roadkill Report: the story so far

To date on this trip, Britain's biodiversity has been revealed in grisly detail in the abundance and variety of the roadkill we have swerved to avoid. Fourteen species in the first week, to be precise.

The highlight so far, a trio of prime mustelidae specimens: the pristine badger in Devon, which looked as if it had merely curled up for a sleep on the verge, the stoat near Shap and a beautifully preserved weasel on the road to Kilmarnock the following day.

The first day in Scotland promised much for the remaining few days, with four new species being added to the list. With a bit of luck, we may get some real Scottish specialities: red squirrel; red deer or maybe even an otter, a pine marten or a beaver?

And, as we head into remoter parts and the shops get harder to find, one wonders if Mat will resort to foraging roadkill for the lunch stops.
