Well, bad weather had been forecast.....and bad weather came. Skies were leaden as we set off for the coast and the wind was gale force. A sweeping turn north towards Wemys Bay brought the wind behind us - the first few miles of sidewinds as we hurtled downhill had been pretty scary (editor's note -Adam's a wuss).

Torrential rain started after our water break at 27 miles and basically didn't stop until we reached Inveraray at 82 miles. What should have been a day to enjoy the quieter roads and magnificent scenery of Lochs Eck and Fyne became a sodden slog. A brief respite came from the short ferry across the Clyde to Dunoon (including a bonus sighting of a nuclear sub heading out from Holy Loch) but that was it. Lunch in a barn, complete with crew blankets (see photo) was at least dry (could be a different story tomorrow) but the weather got worse and worse - at one point we were having to apply maximum effort just to move forwards against the sort of headwind none of us had experienced before, complete with horizontal rain which hit us like needles.

As we reached Inveraray (a very welcome sight- and, I'm sure, lovely on a nice day) an ambulance was heading in the other direction, sirens blaring. We feared the worst and indeed the ambulance was going to aid one of our group, junior doctor Alice, who had been blown off her bike. Thankfully, bruises and cuts besides, Alice is OK (see photo).

Dinner awaits, soaked clothes are hung on every available spot. More rain is forecast for tomorrow.

Sponsors who want to ensure they are getting value for money can rest assured.
